Earth Science Project:
Create an Ocean Weather Forecast

Step 1: Form a Hypothesis
What Affects Ocean Temperature?

In many areas of the ocean the temperature of the water changes throughout the year. If you have gone swimming in the ocean or a lake you may have noticed that the temperature of the water gets colder as you go deeper.

A. Interview Mike Crowley, a COOLroom scientist -- listen to him explain how the ocean temperature is affected by the seasons:

B. Form a hypothesis that explains why temperature varies with the seasons and also with depth (from surface to the deep ocean depths). Record your hypothesis in your notebook.
