Biology Project:
Gone Fishing

Step 1: Form a Hypothesis
What influences fish populations in the ocean?

A. Working as a team, complete the following tasks:

  • Interview scientists and a fisherman to help you form your hypothesis.
  • Answer the question: what are phytoplankton and what is their role in the ocean food web? (Need help? Click Here)
  • Take the food web challenge and record your answers (Requires Macromedia Flash 5. Download Flash )
  • Go to the C.o.o.l. Cards (under C.o.o.l. Tools at the top left of the page) and select (a) scientist(s) who would be best equipped to answer the question regarding phyto plankton

B. Form a hypothesis that explains how to locate fish populations in the coastal ocean. Record your hypothesis and your cool card selection(s) in your notebook.
