Biology Project:
Gone Fishing

Step 2: Collect Data
Where do we find phytoplankton in the ocean and how do we measure it?

Working as a team, complete the following tasks:

  • Brainstorm a list of factors or conditions in the ocean that affect where we find phytoplankton (hint: what do plants need to grow?) Then check out COOL Classroom resources to check your ideas.
  • Once you have figured out where to find phytoplankton, use the Control Room (under C.o.o.l. Tools at the top left of the page) to figure out what instrument you can use to measure phytoplankton in the water. Record your selections in your notebook.
